About Me
About Me
I have been involved in music from a young age and have been playing the bass guitar since I was 13 years old. Furthermore I’m an accomplished double bassist and also compose and produce music.
Since I started Bass-Tech (London College of Music) in 1996 I have been working as a professional musician; both in performing and in teaching. In 1998 I took up the double bass and it became my principal instrument whilst at University.
Along my musical journey I have had a few diversions, which have definitely enhanced my experience of life. Among these were working as a sound engineer for the record producer Dave Allen and at Goldcrest Post Production. In 2002 I went to China and Hong Kong to travel and experience a different culture. While I was there I worked as an English Language Teacher, which has given me a more formal approach to teaching and in the preparation and the management involved.
The biggest influences in my life have been my own teachers – in particular David Heyes and Terry Gregory, and I am very grateful to have learnt so much from them, not just the technical aspects of playing the bass but in wider musical terms and in life in general.
I am proficient in all styles of music, from jazz to rock and funk to classical. Some of the highlights of my music career have been performing with the National Musicians Symphony Orchestra, the ‘Orpheus Jazz Trio’ and in teaching all my students.
Apart from performing and teaching the bass, I am also write educational bass music and produce relaxing and meditation music. Furthermore I have been practising yoga for over 10 years.
Recently I have successfully completed a MA in Music Performance at Kingston University.
